June 5, 2007 HUMASON NAMED TO IDENTITY THEFT BILL CONFERENCE COMMITTEE Don Humason, Westfield’s State Representative, was named by Republican Leader Brad Jones and Speaker Sal DiMasi to the House Conference Committee. The six-member committee is charged with hammering out a compromise between the versions of the identity theft bills passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate designed to cut down on costly identity theft. Each version contained the requirement that consumers receive notification when a security breach, or release of private consumer information, occurs. Both bills allow consumers to freeze their access to their credit reports. “This is my first conference committee and I’m excited to get to work,” Humason said. “It’s important to me that we get an identity theft bill with real teeth passed this year because the problem is only going to get worse if we don’t.” When the committee finishes its work the report it release will go back to each branch for debate and an up or down vote.
Representative Don Humason and his new aide Sarah Latour may be reached at their Westfield District office, 64 Noble Street, Westfield, MA 01085, 568-1366. Their Boston address is State House Room 542, Boston, MA 02133, (617) 722-2803. Email address: Rep.DonaldHumason@Hou.state.ma.us |
