HUMASON FILES NOMINATION PAPERS WITH SECRETARY OF STATE
Announces his intention to run for reelection to Westfield State Representative seat
On the 17th floor of a Boston skyscraper Wednesday, Representative Don Humason, Jr.,
R-Westfield, submitted his certified nomination papers ensuring his name would appear on the ballot for Westfield's State Representative seat this fall.
"Submitting my signatures is only the beginning. Soon the real work of the campaign will begin," he said. "I'm ready for the challenge and looking forward to the race."
Humason, a life-long Westfield resident, and the State Representative for the 4th Hampden District, submitted 246 certified signatures to the Elections Division of the Secretary of State.
Although only required to collect and submit 150 certified signatures, Humason went the extra distance to solicit support from many of the city's voters and collected over 370 "raw" signatures on 21 nomination papers he and his campaign volunteers had circulated all over Westfield.
They were certified by the staff in the Westfield City Clerk's office.
"I'd like to thank the people of Westfield, Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, who had enough faith in me and the job I've done as their State Representative in Boston to put their names on the line," Humason said. "I really appreciate it."
For nearly four years, Humason has served Westfield as State Representative. Prior to that he was the Director of Legislative Affairs for the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services in Boston from 1998 to 2002. From 1994 to 1998 he was the Chief of Staff for State Senator Michael R. Knapik of Westfield.
"Why am I running for reelection? Because I love Westfield! I've been fortunate to live here my entire life and honored to represent this city in the Massachusetts Legislature," Humason said.
"I want to fight for the people of our city in Boston; to stand up for Westfield on Beacon Hill, to continue the course I've already started."
Humason said he would continue to focus on the issues of education, city infrastructure improvements, the economy and jobs, and constituent service for the people of Westfield.
He also pledged his support for higher education, public health and safety, human services for the elderly and disabled, and the environment.
"When I first ran in 2002, I ran on the "4 A's" and promised to be available, approachable, accessible, and accountable," Humason said. "I've lived up to that promise. I know I have what it takes to win, and I know how to do the job well."
Humason, 38, lives on Noble Street in Westfield. He is the son of Westfield firefighter Donald Humason, Sr., and Highland Elementary School nurse Alberta Humason.
