FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WESTFIELD- State Senator Michael R. Knapik (R-Westfield) and State Representative Donald F. Humason, Jr. (R- Westfield) announced the Massachusetts Highway Department has advertised for construction bid a resurfacing project for Southampton Road and North Road in Westfield. The project is estimated to cost approximately $1.5 million. Southampton Road, Route 10 & 202 north of the Massachusetts Turnpike interchange, is a state highway. Over the past four years and concluding with this project, Mass Highway will have resurfaced all roads under its jurisdiction in the City. North Road, from the intersection with Southampton Road approximately to the entrance to Hampton Ponds State Park, will also be resurfaced. This road is under the jurisdiction of the City of Westfield, but state leaders have committed to assist as this is an important connector artery to the City of Holyoke. “I am very pleased Mass Highway has made this project a priority,” Knapik offered. “Southampton Road and North Road are heavily-traveled and in dire need of repair,” he continued. Transportation planners have excluded from the resurfacing project small sections at the Summit Lock Road intersection and at the North Road intersection as plans to realign these areas would be addressed under an anticipated project associated with the Target Distribution Center. “In these times of limited resources, Mass Highway has maintained a commitment to investing in Westfield's infrastructure needs,” Humason offered. “I am particularly pleased that they have stepped forward to assist the City to repair North Road as well,” he continued. This project was advertised for bid on Saturday, June 28th. Proposals are due from contractors on August 26th. This project is a priority for completion prior to the end of this construction season. Representative Don Humason and his legislative aide Sarah Latour may be reached at their Westfield District office, 64 Noble Street, Westfield, MA 01085, 568-1366. Website: www.DonHumason.org
